Queer Family Mediation

I’m Sarah and I’m registered with the Family Mediation Council as a mediator working towards accreditation. I came to mediation after practicing for over 14 years as a barrister and for over five years as a counsellor working with couples and individuals. My experience in both of these fields has left me acutely aware of the harm that can be caused when conflict becomes destructive. With a warm and empathetic mediation style, I support people in reaching peaceful, enduring resolutions while minimising harm to their relationships.

I specialise in working with LGBT people, although families from outside this community are very welcome too. I am experienced in working with people from marginalised groups, including people who are BIPOC, queer and/or trans.
My training in systemic practice at the Institute of Family Therapy gives me important perspective on the impact of wider systemic injustices on marginalised people in conflict. I aim to create an inclusive environment for resolving disputes, taking account of the additional stresses faced by those who are navigating separation within non-normative family structures.

My legal background, which includes several years working in financial services, enables me to process complex factual information quickly, ensuring that proposed solutions are both financially and legally sound. Knowing how stressful and expensive court proceedings can be, I am keen to support people in avoiding them wherever possible. Instead, I seek to offer a path through conflict that can become generative, transforming but not destroying relationships.
